Hey all,

I like to use and experiment with different oils, and as they can be expensive and hard to track down (or shipping costs are outrageous) I can't get to do this much.

Anyway, I was at T.J. Maxx this morning and in the homegoods section on the foodstuffs aisle, I saw a bunch of gourmet oils at really cheap prices. They had organic oils, big sizes, little sizes, you name it. There wasn't a HUGE selection, but I bought a large 33.8oz bottle of Grapeseed Oil for $8!

Long story short- if you're near a T.J. Maxx, check it out!

I am so going to check it out this week! Thanks for sharing, every little bit I save means more soap that can be made.

Thank you!!! I am having fits finding most of the oils everyone talks about in soapmaking. The ones I can find easily are the coconut oil, lard, and shortenings oh and olive oils.
Thank you again!

You can get a small (around 8-10 oz) of sunflower oil for 1.00 at Dollar Tree. And I can actually get some oils at one of the grocery stores here. Virgin Coconut oil, grapeseed, rice bran, sesame and a couple of others. I usually check out the grocery stores when I go into a new one.

Be careful with oils that have been discounted. They could have sat on the shelf for a while and might be oxidized or old.

I made sure to check the date - 11/11. Sounds good to me! I also use the $1 sunflower oil and buy my olive in bulk from Costco. My grocery store sells some of the fancier oils, but at VERY fancy prices (if you know what I mean). The only oil I cannot find at all in person at all is palm. I can find coconut and castor but at exorbitant prices.

Does anyone have a tip for finding palm in a B&M store? I know it was used in Asian cooking and there are a few Asian food stores I need to check. Anything else?

I have found some of the oils at my local grocer in the organic food isle. Though, I cannot remember what they are off hand. Definitely check the dates.

Most of my materials I buy from Brambleberry or Newdirectionsaromatics. But . . . I just found a place www.soaperschoice.com that has bulk oils. I live in indiana and they are out of illinois - so I ended up getting olive, almond, avocado, coconut, and palm all in 7# qty. for 70 bucks and it was only 11 dollars shipping since i was one state over. I had it in less than 48 hours and am very very pleased with the quality. (I do not work for this company or anything - had never even heard of it before. It was just a fluke search that I even found it, so just sharing a good deal!) They also had an A+ rating with the BBB which is a biggie for me. I always check BBB before ordering from a new place.
