Teach Soap

I am making some soaps with honey MP base from BB, and even though it's starting out that gorgeous clear amber color, it turns opaque when I make soap with it!

I used an EO blend the first time, and apricot seed powder for scrubbiness. So the next time I didn't scent it and still added the apricot seed, but again it turned opaque!

It's so frustrating because it's clear when I pour it, then as it cools the outside edges turn cream and it slowly closes in to the center. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hmmm I'm not sure, I never had that happen before to me. I wonder if it's a temperature related thing? For it go creamy it's reacting with something.. are you adding any oils or anything?

Not the EO blend (as you avoided it the second time) so maybe there's something in the seeds that's reacting?

I like the honey base but I've left stuff for 8 months or more and it's got a load of sugar crystals on the top, not pretty. That's why I decided not to introduce it into my range.

Try melting just some plain base by itself and see how that goes. If it's still changing colour, could be a problem with the base or a temp related thing.

Not entirely sure though.

I wonder if it's bad base. Do you have any left? Can you just melt it down and let it harden up without any additives (fragrance or scrubbies?) Around Christmas-time, we had three reports of the clear melt and pour base doing that (so we refunded or replaced base as needed) and I wonder if this is from around the same time?

Hmm...top of my head can it has something to do with the rate it's cooling? (too quickly?) or have you tried a different base?

then again how can the rate of cooling be controlled?

No worries - I'll replace it next time I send a package out to you just to be on the safe side. I really think it was a case of bad base and not the fragrance/EO going cloudy.
