Teach Soap

well i hope it makes soap anyway lol

the recipe I used is as follows:

750 grams of lard
375 grams of olive oil
300 grams of coconut oil
75 grams of castor oil
570 grams of distilled water and
210 grams of lye

Think it was ( from memory)
50% lard
25% olive oil
20% coconut oil and
5% castor oil

then I used the FO calculator and it said a bit over 5 tsp of the baby powder scent FO ( seems like a lot to me lol)

I poured it about 11PM last night, and last time I looked it was gelled in the centre of the (log) mold, then I went to bed lol, soooo hoping it gelled right through!

when I looked this AM it was all back to the creamy colour ( i don't have any colour in it) so i don't know if it's right or not, can't wait until tonight to take it out and cut haha

will take pics tomorrow and show everyone.

Soooo, does this recipe sound ok for a basic family bath soap? it felt greasy when I was washing up the utensils ( straight after I had poured etc)

Congrats on your batch! Yes, it will feel greasy on utensils right after you make it. You could wait till the following day after the soap saponifies and you can wash it then. Give this a nice 4 week cure and I bet it will be a nice soap.

hehe I made quite a bit ( maybe enough for 12ish bars) so will play with 1 at 4 weeks lol then I will let the rest cure to 6. I'm actually hoping it makes a nice baby soap, going to make some olive oil soap next as I *think* it's the gentlest on NB skin?? ( I am 30 weeks pregnant atm)

Thanks soapbuddy....is it slimy like say...mmm snot ...sorry for the gross descriptor!

also, I just cut the leftover soap from last nights batch, was made 13 hrs ago, and when i licked it all I can taste is soap, is that right? I thought it should *zap* or something??

please dont say it hasn't worked properly :S

here's a pic of the soap I made....wow I got a lot! lol
I ended up with 12 log loaf size and 12 smaller ones ( about half the size of the log ones)

I trimmed some rough edges off a few today and used the trimmings to wash my hands....yay! it's got a nice lather and doesn't feel greasy or drying!!!

woot! I really DID make soap lol
