I picked up the little darling on the right because she chewed up a pair of some cretin's shoes. If you give a dog a shoe to chew on, how can they determine which ones they should have and which ones they shouldn't? Human error....not dog error. Anyway, this dirtball was about to dump her in the middle of nowhere when a friend of mine called and picked her up. She's 3 months old and a registered German Shepherd Dog. I do animal rescue work in what little free time I have so I took this little darling home to meet the rest of the clan. There's one missing in the picture but this was the best I could do.

I've been making my own blend of natural tick & flea repellent soap for a while and it's worked great. But this little sweetie has dandruff and her skin is very flaky. Vet said it's a combination of poor diet, and bad conditions she must've come from. Other than that, she's healthy.

My question: I need to tailor my bar to be the most moisturizing possible for her skin. I'm thinking of 100% lard bar with 5% superfat and substituting aloe for water. Any recommendations? Please?

Oh.....and I need a name for this little darling. Open to suggestions.........

**EDIT**
Bathed this little beauty with some unscented oil castile I had lying around then rubbed her down with the ACV vexvelour recommended and later with the jojoba and avocado oil. She stunk terribly and I can only imagine what deplorable conditions she must have been living in. She isn't scratching nearly as much thankfully and the dandruff seems to have subsided after the oil application. Poor thing whimpered all night so I slept on the floor with her until she settled down. She's getting along great with the other 3 GSD's I have. So far, so good. Aside from doing the pee-pee dance at 4:00 a.m. because she couldn't hold it any longer, she's acclimating very quickly.
Thanks everyone for the recommendations, links and advice. Wealth of information in here…..for which I am grateful.
She is going to join the pack of Gunther, Reiker, Dakota, and Mika (mee-ka).
Justkate was the winner with "Sasha". (Russian wife remember)
Thanks again everyone.

**New Photo**
This is Reiker & Sasha after 1 week. Big difference in her demeanor, coat, additude, etc. She is inseparable from Reiker....which is fine. I probably won't post anymore photos because I don't want some to think that I'm hijacking the board. Just wanted to show everyone the difference. Thanks.

Can you massage her skin with a small amount of jojoba after you give her a bath? Soap is a wash off product; maybe add some oatmeal to it? I have no idea as far as a name. I'm not good with names.

I'd name her Jo.

If it's her diet, after a few weeks the yucky skin should just shed out. I dunno what you'll use in the meanttime. You could do a rub with olive oil and tea tree oil to help loosen up the stuff....but then again, she's a dog. I bet that would get sticky and yucky in a hurry. But really, what about a 50-50 coconut olive bar?

I've read that Apple cider vinegar can do wonders for pet's skin, especially flaky, itchy skin. It has to be ACV with mother, which you can find at a good health store. The gross ACV smell goes away when it dries. Try reading more about it at earthclinic.com for pets.

I'd say she's one "Lucky" lady. Maybe some dietary omega 3s while waiting for her improved diet to kick in?
She looks like a happy pup. Glad she found a good home.

Awww, she's a cutie. Bless yer pea pickin' heart as they say down your way. Get her on a good diet. Chicken and rice or lamb and rice as the primary ingredients. No corn. That will help her skin more than anything external will. Deworm her. Talk to your Vet about Drontal Plus. It's a broad spectrum dewormer, given twice, a tab 3 weeks apart. How about 5 or 10% pine tar added to the lard? And some coconut oil for suds.

Her name will come to you as you get to know her better but my votes are for:

Sasha (it's a Russian nickname)

Zoe (zo-ee) Means life in Koine Greek .. and she's got one now.

Lola

Scout

Bijou (French for jewel or gem)

I like Debbs' suggestion of Sierra, too.

She's a lucky girl. Lil' ankle biter, shoe chewer. :)

Congratulations on your new family member. Good food will work wonders for her coat. I brought home a stray dog ( 11 ) years ago that someone dropped off in the country . She was pregnant. Fending for herself and nursing puppies really took a toll on her health. Her coat looked horrible. A month of good food and some care and it all was beautiful and shiney. I make a dog soap with honey and goats milk. I don't put oatmeal in it cause I don't want to have to comb it out of her coat later.

Goatmilk soap of course! Actually, I suggest Oatmeal, milk and Honey bars to people who have dogs with skin issues. I get great feed back. I do agree though that a good diet will help. I put aloe vera drink in my goat's water when the boys have been too rough on each other and head butt the fur right off their heads---- clears them up and makes their coats shiney in just a few days.

My big dog's name is Sorsha--- it's Irish :)

Sasha is great! Love it!
My hubby is from Ukraine, moved here with his family when he was 9. His brother Aleksandr goes by Sasha (just with family tho as it is usually a girls name here) :D
