I'm using up some older oils,(spring cleaning) and am out of olive oil which is my favorite inexpensive oil and always makes up the bulk of my recipes. Avocado oil seems to be closer in linoleic and oleic acids, but I really want to use apricot kernel oil, which is much higher in linoleic acid than olive and avocado. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to work this out ? I was thinking I could counteract linoleic acid with a high lauric acid oil such as palm kernel. 8)

Apricot Kernel is a soft oil. Do you have any rice bran? If not, palm kernel might work.

Yep, I sub out olive oil 50% with rice bran at times, especially if I want a lighter soap. It has very similar properties to olive but a shorter shelf life.

Palm kernel is a coconut oil substitute. Its properties are most similar to coconut oil. It's really not a good olive oil substitute and it's not a palm oil substitute either. It can also be drying in the same amounts that most people use olive oil.

And while I love avocado oil in soap, it's also a soft oil and takes a ver-r-r-r-ry long time to cure/dry. I don't use it over 20% in CP and even when using 3 hard oils with it, I plan on a lengthy cure time.
