I'm trying to decide which type of shrink wrap to purchase: perforated or not. I'm worried that the perforations will hasten the loss of scent over time. Is anyone using perforated shrink wrap? Is one better than the other? I would love to hear opinions about this.

Cheers,
Dawna

I only use perforated for lip balms. When I used shrink wrap for soaps, I left 2 sides open.

Thank you for the reply Soapbuddy! Do you mean that when wrapping bars of soap, you leave two sides open (not heated closed)? If that is correct, why? Do you agree that the perforated wrap might contribute to the loss of scent in the bars?

:)

Soapbuddy,

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm still practicing my shrink wrap technique and was puzzled by the idea of leaving two ends open. In case anyone is interested - I have sampled several different biodegradable shrink wraps and have found that the film from National Shrink Wrap to be by far the superior product! It feels much softer, melts at a super low temperature (so you use less electricity) and has a great clear finish.

cheers,
Dawna

Thank you Soapbuddy! You are extremely helpful. One last question though, if you don't mind of course, is it the tubing, the wrap or the bags from that website that you just mentioned? Thanks!!

I would order small because some of them smell of petrol. I have purchased high end soaps in a pvc wrap that stunk literally. So buy small and try it out first. PVC can stink.

I've tried shrink wrap, but I find that unless I double wrap the soaps (which looks revolting) the soaps tend to dry out and curl, which looks just as horrible after a couple of months. Best thing I've found are 4" x 6" shrink wrap bags, which I buy off eBay. I'm in England, but I'm sure there's someone on eBay US who'll sell them. I've got some soap I shrink-wrapped last June, and they're still perfect. Only snag is that you can't smell the soap through the wrap, so for markets and the like you have to have a sample for people to sniff at.

Speaking of markets, silliest question I remember was the other day, "How long will this soap last?" Duhh ... ?!

Hi. I was wondering which bag size you used? 4 x 6 or the 6 x 6? If the 4 x 6 is too small, did you have to cut some of the 6 x 6 down to fit the soap?
Thanks.

When I buy shrink bags, I buy 6 x 6 and trim them to size if need be.
