I ran to the drug store to get alcohol so I could make soap. I have a question? Does it matter what % or 'proof' it is...LOL I had to choose between 70% and 91%....

I bought 70%- does this matter?

I use the 70%, haven't had any problems.

Hi, iteach,

I've used the 70% and the 91% with no problems.

I've been told that the higher the alcohol content, the better, so I'd stay away from the 50% variety. But I think 70% or 91% should be fine. On the "Majestic Mountain Sage" blog ("Adventures With the Sage"), some of the recipes specifically recommend 70%-91% rubbing alcohol. http://blog.thesage.com/category/soap/m ... pour-soap/

90% is all l could get in my town and l have been using it all the time without mishap

I've been using 180 proof but for some reason, my soap doesn't turn out very well. :mrgreen:

forgive me, I'm feeling a little loopy and crazy on this sunny Friday! :lol:

I used the 91% and it didn't work as well as the 70%. With the 70% all my soap turns out great. :lol:
