Wow, first of all let me just say how intimidated I am by all of the talent here! I was reading through the "soap wreck" thread and thought ... man, if I could even figure out how to make that I'd be happy!!
I've made m&p soap before and while I love the idea of all the really creative, artsy bars, I've always stuck to very simple, earthy bars. I probably would make a good candidate for cp soap, but I have a 3 year old who enjoys constantly playing under my feet at the most inopportune moments, I'm sticking with m&p for the time being.
My hubs is a US soldier and I started making soap just before his first deployment a few years ago so that he could have something really nice to shower off all that sand (good exfoliant though, huh?!). And, a few months ago I started using my main creative outlet (writing) to bring in a bit of money. Unfortunately, that isn't allowing me much in the way of creative freedom because it's freelance article writing. So, until I write my great novel, I thought I'd put some of that energy back into soapmaking. I discovered (a little late) Etsy and fell in love and thought ... why not put some of MY soap on there?
So, I stumbled upon this site and then BB and bought up some new, fresh supplies. I am at the bottom of the learning ladder. I can melt and pour soap and while my oatmeal bar may be fairly simple, I think it's pretty! (Though, not a good lather and my husband just decided to tell me that it never really smoothed out and always had some sharp edges ... I'm hoping an actual soap cutter might fix that???)
A long intro, I know, but I'm really excited! Y'all seem like a really great, supportive and talented bunch that I'm ready to plop down and start learning some techniques. I'm thinking I'll probably stick with pretty natural, herb-y (is that a word?) bars, but I'm really liking the classy swirly-looking bars.
