I had no idea that the forum had logged me out and I had just typed this huge laundry list of oils that I need help with for recipes. I had no idea that I had so many oils. I've spent so much money and don't want throw my money away.

Anyway, I have lots of oils and would love some cp recipes thrown my way so I can use them. I'm not sure which ones to use for what and in what proportions.

I specifically want to use some Olive, Shea Butter, Coconut, Palm and Castor but I have some exotic (if that's what you call Pistashio, Macadamia and Hazelnut) and some other butters (Coffee and Avacado) that I'd also like to use but not in this batch with the Shea Butter.

Thanks for your help!

Save your exotic oils for leave on products. For a small basic batch try this:

Castor 0.4oz.
Coconut 3 ozs.
Olive 9 ozs.
Palm 3 ozs.
Shea Butter 0.6

5.4 ozs. of water
2.2 ozs. of lye for a 5% superfat

Lisa 0102. I did the exact same thing and purchased one of every kind of butters/oils that BB carries. They're all sitting there in the fridge getting old. I had big ambitions to use them in soap but they were just that.....ambitions. I ended up making some lotion bars out of most of them. I agree with soapbuddy. Use that stuff for direct, leave-on application products where they'll do the most good.

Lisa, Anne Marie has a good pistachio balm recipe. I have it somewhere, but you can possibly use the search to find it.

There are also lots of soap recipes on: www.millersoap.com

Lisa you would want to run any new recipe thru a soap calculator. So if you google a soap calculator, it shows all the oils one could possibly use. You can put in any type oil you want and the amount and it will tell you the qualities of that oil and such. If you have a basic recipe that works, just follow it as an example and substitute oils of like qualities. I think you would get a feel for the mixing of it all. Have fun!

Of course like soapbuddy advises the really premium leave on oils, save those direct body contact recipes. It's all a grand experiment isn't it!

Thank you guys so much for all the replies with help! I will try the recipe Ginger suggested today and look up what I can do with the "exotics" later but before they get too old.

Is there any rule to follow for how long oils last that are opened and for ones that aren't opened? I'm not sure since I don't know how old or how long it was opened where I purchased it from and I'm sure that counts too.

Thanks again to everyone that replied and I'll let you know how it turns out and post some pictures as I'm getting ready to make it now!

Well tonight I cut my 2 new loaves and here are the pictures. I'm happy with the blue and natural scented with Shampure one but not so happy with the orange/pink one scented with pink sugar. They are both made with the same batch I just divided it into two and then cut each of them into 2 to add my colors. Both seemed a little too wet but I cut them anyway. I had added a little extra water when I was making the soap since I read somewhere that this can help slow trace and when I'd made soap the first time it reached trace way to quickly and I didn't want that to happen again. The pink/orange one was colored with pearl pink mica. Does mica not color real well in cp soaps? I'm just wondering why the outside all the way around turned orange. Please tell me if anyone knows. Also the pink sugar did not hold its scent very well either so I wouldn't recommend using for cp soaps.
Thanks everyone for your help!

Pink Sugar tends to discolor. What you see on the outside of the soap is oxidation. As the soap cures it will most likely all turn that color. Nice job!

One more thing...maybe this is why it turned out orange around the outside. The pink was the first one I colored and I just put the pink peal mica into the soap and mixed it. It looked fine then. But when I did the blue color (it was ultramarine blue) I mixed it into the fragrance and then put that into the soap. Do you think this may be why?

Thanks Ginger! I must have been writing at the same time you were. So how do other people get theirs to turn a pretty pink? I saw a beautiful one tonight on Etsy posted by smileyme520 at http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?li ... d=33843752 and another one by KB Shimmer at http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?li ... =&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title and their pinks are both great. What do you think they did differently?

The first one could be a peach mica according to my monitor. The second one is most likely FD&C Red #33, since it's a CP soap.
