First off Thank you Soapbuddy about unmolding the ungelled individual soaps! "Since these are individual molds, I doubt you will get gel. If you have a problem trying to get the soaps out of the mold, freeze them. When they are solid frozen, run warm water over the outside of the mold. Then gently wiggle the mold and they should come out._________

CLEANING up the tools of the trade?

After saponification, trace and pouring into molds, we have left the array of tainted tools covered in raw soap. Still dangerous to object and skin. I was taught to scrape off every possible bit into molds etc and to set used tools onto paper towels on a plastic tray.

1. Now into the sink, spray with vinegar to help neutralize, then wipe everything with newspaper or paper toweling to remove as much raw soap as possible and put it all into a plastic bag.
2. Now with running water rinse all these tools until you've removed as much raw soap as possible, which leaves an oily slick on everything.

After these steps I have been putting my hand tools (not SB) and pot and measuring cups and lye container into my dishwasher. IS THIS OK? It just dawns on me I have never really received any instruction about the clean up part, just visuals!~ Oh Help please!

You will have foam coming out the wazoo if you put them in the dishwasher. Ask me how I know. ;)

I just let them sit overnight, then fill my soap "pot" with the utensils and hot water, then rinse. Voila!

Hi Mella,

I leave my stuff out overnight to "dry" and then bring in the kitchen the next am to wash. I do a hot water & soap wash, and then I do a bleach rinse to get some of that lingering greasiness off.

But I might not be doing it right.

I have also done the dishwasher, but that is pretty much a no no. I used to only run it with soaping stuff, but still, can't be that good for the machine. What I do now is the pots that I heat up my oils in go int he dishwasher as long as there wasn't raw soap but everything else gets handwashed.

Don't put it in the dishwasher! I get cheap Dollar Store liquid soap and wash everything as soon as I am done with very warm water.

I put on my rubber gloves and wash everything with hot water and detergent as soon as I pour the soap in the mold.

My house is an older one, no dishwasher. I wash everything in hot, soapy (dawn) water with my gloves still on. Dry everything and put it away with the rest of the soap stuff (so it doesn't get mixed up with kitchen stuff). It's a small house, not enough room to keep stuff out, especially since I soap at the kitchen table.

Hey there Lisa!! Perhaps I will stick to the M and P as the clean up is so easy!!

I'd leave the stuff in the sink to dry out, but my kitties might get hurt or something, so it is either clean up right away or stick to M and P. LOL

Just did a few M and P samples of pretty fragrances, individuals for my trip for friends. So hum bug!! LOL

I have a complete work station in the garage with a sink. I wipe everything down, let it sit overnight and wash with dishwashing detergent (by hand) the next day. I tried to talk hubby into getting a dishwasher out there, so far, no luck. Maybe one of the days tho, lol.

I usually need my soap tools for the next batch, so washing after I'm done with the previous batch makes it easier for me. One of these days I'll have duplicates of everything so I don't have to do it this way.

I wipe all the raw soap off of everything with regular (but old) towels and leave them in my laundry sink for a few days (rather than wasting half a roll of paper towels), then the next time we wash towels we drop them in and they come out fresh n clean. Since there's very little left on my stuff, I just wash it with hot water and some dishwashing liquid and its good to go.
