Couldn't resist throwing my own little "grr" in here. I am very glad that the idea of making CP soap makes me too nervous because the registration cost is stupid. It does no one any good really. Basically you pay them money simply to say you happen to use chemicals. No one benefits, there is no quality testing, nothing. If it were a reasonable amount then it might be ok, but no matter whether you sell 1 bar of CP soap or 50 here in Aus you need to pay the government the Tier 1 registration cost of $381. It seems to me to be government revenue raising and nothing else.

/rant. Sorry I know I don't even have to pay it, but I still think it's stupid.

So, I read through this thread and, being a newbie, I'm a little confused about the m&p vs. cp debate. I know I have a lot of research to do and am working my way through, but thought I'd throw some questions out into this forum. What I'm understanding is that cp is handmade soap from scratch and that m&p is handmade soap from a soap base? I'm pulling this question from the few people who made "market honestly" comments and I'd like to make sure I'm doing that!

I would think that a m&p soap is still handmade or is it handcrafted? I'm not really up on the lingo in the "crafty" area because I've always been a little intimidated by it! Also, is the m&p soap base made via a cp process, or is it a different process all together?

Yes, CP is made from scratch with oils or butters and lye. MP base comes premade so it's easier to use for someone that has small kids or pets around and worries about the lye aspect. MP base starts similar to CP, but things like sugar and alcohol have been added to make it clear. IMO CP is handmade and MP is handcrafted, but either has been used interchangeably.

I make both types as well and you always come against that attitude from other soapers or customers. A lot of M&P buy a kit from Michaels and cheap scents and not assume that is what your soap it like. Just pick what you enjoy and then show customers the benefits of your soap.
