Teach Soap

Here in Md, we have 2-2.5 ft of snow on the ground, and I needed something to help pass the time
So, I decided to make a photo box, and redo the soap pics for my website....
I love the simple look, so I intentionally made the pics very minimalistic. But I am wondering if they are too bare??

I like it that way. The focus is on the soaps, not the background or anything else that's around it.

Your soaps are beautiful. I like the style of photo, however I'm no expert but I seem to feel it needs a bit more light in front. Did you use a flash? The colors would be a bit brighter I think with a bit more lite in front. I of course could be way wrong about this!

That's cool how you arranged your soaps

I used to work for a ceramic giftware designer and the way she took pictures of her mugs in the light box was by putting a lamp on each side of the box. All the light just shoots straight to the product as opposed to any other part of the box.

i like how you balaned the color of your soaps in the grouping. Is there a way you could crop the top brighter portion of the photo? My eyes tend to wonder to that area when looking at it. I do like the simplicity of it!

I like the white background also, and your soaps look fantastic. But I also have my eye drawn upward to the top of the photo where the light is real bright. Maybe just a closer shot of the soap.

Well done on making a light box and that's a lovely photo! I made my own light box this week too :]

Mine is like this though -
I put mine in the bay window for light all round, plus lamps on both sides and I get lovely photos. I don't use the flash though as like soapbuddy says I get flash spots and that's rather annoying.

Then my husband touches them up on photoshop. I think it's great making your own light box and hardly costs anything.

I am looking forward to 'playing' with the light box some more...moving the light around, and using bright natural light (YummyMummy--I like your idea using the bay window!) Photography is not 'my thing' but I certainly have fun with it!

Another thing you could try is add some white matte poster board underneath the soap and extend it towards the back and top so you get a nice seamless background.

Being that I do nature photography as a hobby, I also made a light box to photograph all the things I make for my website. I used PVC tubing, made a box and fitted a white sheet over. Picked up some of those silver scoop thingys they have in the hardware stores that have a squeeze clamp on them and took these.
