Regarding Rice Cookers is there a particular size, style or brand you enjoy using?

Nope - I have an old one that works great, and the ones I used at a class were really standard but they had a 'warm' setting. I don't think you can go wrong!

Well I'm headed to Hawaii on a cat sitting job in a few weeks and I think I will carry a rice cooker in my carry on! Is that obsessed or what! Best of luck on your soap teaching. A friend picked up a used rice cooker this morning at the market!

Ok Soapbuddy I hope I fixed it, but it is a huge obsession. Just finished the coconut!! YUM!

Well it didn't shrink with the re-size thru photobucket, so I just removed it!

I did it !!!! I made my first order for my 'experiment'. I am proud of myself, I held back and only ordered about $50 of stuff!! Seriously I could have done 4x that easily.

I ordered the clear m&p soap base, the sample kits for color and scent that soapylove suggested, added a glitter sample pack and some pipettes, bar molds and the ducks for the girls to embed in their soap.

I have a crock pot that has a warm setting so I'm going to see what temp it will keep water before I put soap in it... if it's not going to work I think I will hit the thrift stores with my mom and see if I can find a few rice cookers.

Now comes the hard part waiting until my new 'toys' arrive from Fed Ex ground!

I wonder if any of my old Wilton candy molds would work for soap...??? I have several that I don't use for candy any longer (no more little kids in the house) but couldn't make myself throw them away.

I promise to post pictures even the goofs that I'm sure I will make.

Thanks again for all the great suggestions and advice..

I used crock pots when I did soapy class at my daughter's school last year and they worked out fine.

I have used crock pots as well... worked great. Although it did seem to take FOREVER for the first batch to melt down. Once that melted though and we just added a few chunks at a time it went a lot faster. Just give a stir every few minutes and keep it as low as you can and covered as much as possible (when not stirring!) :D

It may also help to have a microwave on hand: I was doing it with preschoolers, so it took a little longer with them, but sometimes the soap would start to set up before they were done mixing so it was nice to be able to zap their little cups in the micro to melt it again.

 I left work 10 minutes early because I was so excited to get home an open my soap order from Brambleberry!! I left a huge 12x12 RED sign for Fedex that read:

FED EX DO NOT LEAVE BOX ON PORCH Please put by garage door. Dog eats boxes and I will complain!

I guess I got the only illiterate delivery man that works for Fedex because I came home to a porch full of cardboard peices, a soap mold with teethmarks and a bottle of fragrance in the grass in front of the porch. The rest was inside with a note from my son that said.
Hey Mom,
You don't have to know how to read to work for Fed ex.
I think Dad and I found all the peices.

There is grass stuck to my soap ICK but I think I found everything....

Wow, I totally jumped in on this thread for some good starter tips!!!

iteach: How fun!!! I've always had good luck with Fedex, until Christmas this year, so maybe we're just in for a bad delivery year??? Oh, I hope not! I just ordered some new supplies from BB tonight and I'm hoping it isn't damaged, delivered to the neighbors, lost, etc etc!
