Hi everyone, :D I have only just joined the forum and I think I have an addiction LOL. Just made my very first batch yesterday and I was so excited I cant wait to do the next. It was just a simple olive oil, coconut and palm oil recipe scented with Essential oils (ylang ylang, rose and jasmin) and tinted with ultramarine pink. What a buzz when I turned it out tonight.
Anyway, I'm Sue from a little village in Lincoln, England and I look forward to talking to some of you very soon I hope. Going to try another recipe tomorrow and be a little more adventurous, Regards to you all

Good job! Picking the trinity of oils for your first batch was a good choice. Now using floral scents is a whole challenge in itself! Congrats on getting those incorporated without a major seize or heat up! Do you really have rose and jasmine essential oils--- not fragrance oils? Don't know if I've ever seen Jasmine essential oils over here--- how cool!

Good luck with your next batches--- slowly change or add another oil or butter to give your soaps different character---- more creaminess, more bubbles, more conditioning.......... it's fun!

Welcome!
You used real rose and jasmine? I would think those oils would be pretty pricey as soap is a wash off product.

Hi everyone, thank you very much for your comments. The Rose and Jasmine essential oils were a christmas present so I could afford to be extravagant (they were very expensive but the smell from my soap room is intoxicating). I must say that I was a little put off with using fragrance oils because all the books I have read so far tend to advise against newbies using them until experienced. I think I must have made the most expensive bars of soap ever, but what the heck!!!

Last night I unmoulded my soap and sliced it. I am feeling pretty good as I expected an absolute disaster the first time. Soooooo looking forward to being creative.

Personally I love a bar of soap with masses of lather, does anyone have the ideal recipe?

Regards to you all, Sue
p.s it is wonderful to chat to other addicts, I don't think my husband could take much more

Wow!! What a Christmas present!!! That's interesting to know that even the rose and jasmine essential oils are easy to work with. I'm sure I will never have that experience   !!

I personally have used over 100 fragrance oils over the years--- I'm sure others ( Soapbuddy! ) have used even more. There are plenty that are easy to use--- especially citrus ones off the top of my head. It really does depend on your recipe, so don't be afraid to try them.

Of course, why bother if you have plenty of the real thing! I would be using those for sure! Have fun!

If you feel your recipe needs more bubbles, try upping the amount of castor or add a small amount of sugar to your cooled off lye water.
