Happy weekend...ahhhhh...Saturday is finally here!

I buy most of my soaping supplies from BB, but there are some they don't carry. I have been looking on various websites for bulk (small bulk that is- 7 lbs.) of unrefined shea butter & rice bran oil. In my search, I came across some listed as cosmetic grade. What does that mean? Are they inferior to what I am assuming is food grade? I am more of a purist & want a "cleaner" bar of soap.

Also, does anyone have a good source for their unrefined shea butter & rice bran? Shipping (to NY) is a fortune from some of the smaller companies I have found.

I use either grade. Whichever one costs less. I don't find a big difference between the two grades. I no longer use shea butter, so I'm not much help.

It's funny you should ask about alternate sources for shea. Yesterday I stopped off at a little organic store near my house that I've been meaning to check out. It turns out they sell large hunks (3/4 lb) of shea for $7. I got really excited and grabbed one. There was an employee standing right there stocking some stuff so I asked him if they sell through lots of the blocks of shea, etc. He mentioned to me that if for whatever reason I needed shea and they happened to be out that I could try any sort of African food/beauty store as shea is an African export. Apparently this weekend there is a huge African themed festival happening and he also said that for like $15 I could probably go and fill a bucket(!)'s worth. Since you mentioned living in NY there might be similar happenings near you?
