Thank you all for your lovely comments on my soft-boiled Easter Egg (at least 5 pages ago) I'm so sorry I haven't replied; we've had a few grief-stricken weeks trying to get a wireless connection up and running. I honestly can't see myself trying to sell them; can't think anyone would want to wash with a soft-boiled egg (especially one which smelt of chocolate!), but I just wanted to see if I could do it! The original intention was to produce a complete egg, but M&P shrinks so much while it's cooling that it became an experiment too far. I do have about 20 blown eggshells, though, so maybe all isn't lost! xxx

Ah! I wondered what you used for a mold. I was thinking about hardboiling an egg, and using molding putty to make a mold. IF I ever decide to try to compete with your fantastic egg.

I can't make that silicon putty stuff behave itself; it seems to end up either too thick or too thin, so I've pretty much abandoned it. All I did with the egg was blow it (we ate a lot of scrambled egg for a day or so!) then coated the inside of the shell with the eggshell colour and let it set before pouring the 'white' in. Getting the shell off is the tedious bit; squeezing the whole thing tends to release most of it from the soap inside, but it's still a pain chipping the stubborn bits off; life's too short!

CaptainBubbles, have you tried plastic Easter eggs? Fit the two halves together, use a hot needle/awl to make a hole in the top to inject your soap, set them in empty egg cartons to harden... Haven't tried this myself, but it would work, in theory. Oo, and you could embed a yolk in there - fill the open bottoms with white, let set slightly & gently push a yellow ball into it. Attach the top of the mold & inject the rest of the (cooled) white.

You could really gild the lily & rub brown/beige mica on the finished egg ;)

-Hayley, who is clearly full of ideas this morning

Hi, I'm still relatively new to all this but thought I would share what I made today :)

Top left is Chamomile and Jasmine with fine ground olive stone on top

Top right is English rose with rose petals on top

Bottom left is Lavender with lavendar flowers

Bottom right is Patchouli with blue poppy seeds

Thanks for looking! :)

I have to admit looking longingly at Kinder Eggs, but they're a ridiculous price ... now's the time to go hunting in Pound Shops for alternatives, though - love your idea of putting the yolk in, Hayley! It would work, wouldn't it?! Wotta bright idea!!

Regarding the temp to use with embeds. I heard that you should be able to put your pinky finger into it comfortably. I've been using this method and it appears to work fine. I also use it for layers as well. So before I pour a layer or pour over an embed I just stick my pinky in so that it goes to the middle of the soap and if it's too hot I wait. If it doesn't burn and doesn't feel too cool either, then I pour. You can't pour if it's too cool either or your layers won't stick. And don't forget the alcohol either.
Here's an embed I made for Valentines day and I used this method. Nothing bleed and it all stuck together fine.

Thanks - I was slightly nervous posting my first picture as everyone here does such lovely and imaginative soaps etc :]

Hmm haven't given much through to Valentines day tbh :/ I've got such a long 'to do' list I've just been making my through that. I might have to look for some inspiration for some more though!

Lisa I love your 'love' soap - it looks lovely!

Lovely LOVE, Lisa! And I love using cupcake liners for impromptu molds, YummyMummy - yours look sweet!

Let me know how your eggs v2 work out, CaptainBubbles! The yolk idea was spawned from a series of Secret Heart soaps I'm doing for Valentine's Day - they look like a regular bar of soap, but as you use it, a heart emerges (in a different color & scent from the main bar). I'll have photos in the next day or two :)

Your pinky is the baby finger on the outside of your hand. Farthest from your thumb. :)

Yay, a soaping question I can answer!!
