I am new to m/p soap makeing. I have only used liquid to color soap. I dont see much on useing micas. Do you use with other colors or
just add the mica for color. I dont see any guidlines on how much to use. Any advice?
Thanks
Janie

Mica is easy to use in MP soap. As far as color, it depends how light or deep you want the color to be. I would start off with 1/4 tsp. per lb. of base and see how you like it. You can use less, or little bit more if you want deeper color.

Just another little tip for using micahs: I dissolve the micah powder in a few (4-5) spritzes of rubbing alcohol then add to the melted soap. I find it easier to blend compared to putting the powder directly into the soap. Have fun!

I will use a spritz or 2 of the rubbing alcohol if the mica is clumping while I stir it in. That will pop the mica bubbles that are floating and allow it to be stirred into the soap a little easier.

I've been wondering about the micas too. Today I mixed some pink oxide with rubbing alcohol- the first bar was a pretty light pink. The second batch (I tried my first loaf), I can see flecks of the oxide on the bottom. I watched the soap queen video again but still was unsure about mixing the mica with rubbing alcohol so I didn't try it, lol....but I will now! Thanks!

Oxides need more mixing than micas; at least in my case they do. :)

My batch yesterday CP I mixed the oxides violet and green with glycerin thinking that would be best for CP. Is it, or should I have used alcohol?

Funny thing is each little cup I stirred the same. The green oxide soaped beautifully the violet is lumpy and ugly and it was stirred just the same! Go figure.

I dissolve mine in a little of my melted soap...and whisk it ...then spray with alcohol and whisk more if needed... works for me.....read that somewhere on one of the forums... :)
