Another question!

Has anyone here used lemon or orange peel powder in M&P? If yes, how were the results? I'm interested in making a soap that looks like marmalade and I think having peel of sone description would make a nice addition. Actually I wonder if I could use candied peel? :?: Anyone know if it would go bad in the soap? Thanks! :)

I've used lemon peel powder and frankly didn't care for it. It colored the soap a sort of dusty yellow.

I had better success using real lemon peel by zesting 1/2 lemon per 1 lb of base. I also used the lemon juice at 1 tbs per lb and also added 1-2 tsp of lemon extract. I was trying to make a lemon sugar scrub soap. I also added a bit of honey fragrance to sweeten the lemon. Lemon is a natural astringent. Anyway the combo of the lemon zest, lemon juice, lemon extract, and honey worked out very nice.

Haven't tried orange but I'm sure you could zest the orange to get the rind in your soap. The rind helps act as an exfolient.

You can use orange peel or lemon peel powder in soap. However, I am not sure about making your own fresh zest .... I can see that going bad in your soap. BB sells orange peel powder here and it has been dried out and is okay now for use in soaps... I am sure other soap making supply stores would carry similar items, From Nature With Love would be a good place to check also. :D

I used the fresh lemon peel and the juice successfully in my soap without it going bad or spoiling. M&P can handle a boat load of different types of additives. The trick is in finding how much and in what amounts your base will handle. Too much of any or a combo of additives can affect the quality of the finished soap. Thats why I mentioned the amounts I have used with success.

Anyway the lemon sugar scrub soaps that I make with the lemon zest and juice are one of my top sellers and I have been making them for about a year and a half.

Cool, thanks for the tips! I guess if I was unsure I could always just make a one-off tester soap with fresh zest and keep it for a few months to see what happens. :)

I'm about to try a scent called Balsam & Citrus for my next batch of soap. I just love citrus scented things!
I found an awesome source for soap-making supplies. They carry all sorts of unusual types of oils like avocado and coconut and also a huge range of oil scents that you can add to your soaps. They have everything you could want in terms of .

Candybee, forgive me for asking, but, what about your soap makes it a scrub soap? Does the lemon peel make it a scrub?
