Hello,

I've been fascinated by this candle place for awhile now and am trying to figure out how it's done and have an idea of how I think it's done. The original owners sold the business recently but here is the site: http://www.beebright.com/

I want to figure out how to make these: http://www.beebright.com/colors-full.cfm Notice they are all coloured and scented. I tried using natural beeswax that I get from a local supplier in town and used my coloured candle wax and added scent and it was very difficult to find the right wick so I gave up.

Now I'm thinking that white bleached beeswax is used and scented and coloured. Do you think that is how it's done? I don't know how it would be possible with natural beeswax.

It must be white (or semi refined) beeswax as you can't get some of those colors with natural, unbleached wax.

soapbuddy,

Thanks, that is exactly what I thought too and figured it was the only way it was possible.

wow, nice candles!
I like their styling (hang tag off the candle wick in the votive)... [taking mental notes]

Couple things I noticed in their descriptions. "The 2" diameter pillar is a solid beeswax core dipped in a coating of beeswax and essential oil." not sure how this is accomplished. It is probably a good idea to have the wax with the essential oil on the outside where it can get warmed, not not actively burn. They don't actually look like they are dipped though...

As for the color, I am guessing that they do use a really light wax, but all it really requires is a knowledge of color theory (which I am sadly lacking in as well)and a lot of experimentation as well. One benefit they have is that they can mix and create color for the scent blend. Once they come up with a color they like, they jsut need to replicate it. you are trying to match what they have, which is much harder. An FYI, if you leave beeswax out in the sun, it will lighten up considerably.

You can get rich colors using the reddig-glo dye chips. If I were making beeswax candles I would try the dye chips and use the white beeswax.

But beeswax is too expensive. In todays market they are a hard sell. If you want to go natural why not use soy or palm?

I use white beeswax for my colored tapers and liquid dyes......chips or blocks aren't good to use when you are going for a consistent color every batch. 8)

I use both liquid and dye chips although I prefer the dye chips in natural waxes cause they always give me a richer color than the liquids. I have never had any problem with color inconsistency. They are always spot on every time.
