I'd also like to hear about using aloe water. I bought a huge gallon size of it a while back for making toothpaste, but holy cow I only use like a teaspoon every few weeks, lol. What the heck I might just try it tomorrow.

Yes you can, but the lye water might be stinky for a bit. Make sure that the aloe water is very cold.

I make several different recipes that substitute aloe (100%) for water. I always freeze a couple of empty pudding cups full and use 1/2 aloe ice and 1/2 liquid aloe. Reportedly makes the skin soft after showering.

Are you talking about the Aloe "Juice" that you can buy as a diet aid in drugstores or health food stores?
If so, I use that to mix my 50/50 pre-mixed lye solution that I use in all of my soaps. I also use it fairly often for the additional liquid needed when I make a batch. The lye water is slightly tinged green but it doesn't seem to affect the outcome of the soap. I also don't notice any unusual odors.

I can't swear that any of the aloe properties really survive the process but I've done this for a long time and am really happy with the way my soaps come out... so why change? I get a gallon bottle at Trader Joes for about $7 bucks and that goes a pretty long way.
