Teach Soap

Dad is going to make me some wooden soap molds ala - http://www.candlesandwoodcrafts.com/woo ... molds.html

Question is, what dimensions do you guys normally use for around 4lbs of soap? I've never made CP, so I'm just not sure. Thanks in advance!:) He's a custom cabinetmaker, and I get him to make me all the wooden stuff I want or could ever need lol

Around 4oz cured...so I'm assuming 4.3-4.5oz just cut? I have no idea in inches...2x4 maybe? In other news, I bought the two thermometers today...just waiting for my pigments to get here! This mold will be for later batches...I already have one he made me that's a slab mold that I'm going to line.

My smaller soap is 3.25 x 2 x 1.25" thick. It's about 4 ozs.

I just threw a loaf of my soap on the scale and then did the math to figure out how long for 4 lbs of soap. My mold is 2.5" deep and is 3.5" wide. To end up with a 4lb. loaf you would need it to be 12.3" long. Cutting the bars 1" thick puts them at the size you want.

Funny you should ask. This am I watched a you tube on how to build a wooden soap mold there were 3 parts to the youtube I think the persons name was Keith Brown, not positive. He showed how to build a wooden mold 18 inches long out of 1 by 4 inch pieces of wood with hanger bolts and wing nuts. From what I could tell they looked nice.

You guys are so informative! lol I have to stop myself from asking a ton of questions and being annoying hehehe I wrote that down, will give it to dad and make him work;)

Those are what mine will be....either wing nuts or hinges, depends on what he thinks will work best. I could probably get him to make some for you guys too if ya want to give me the dimensions for yours LOL
