Teach Soap

I don't have access to fresh goat's milk. Is it OK to use reconstituted powdered milk, or could I add the milk powder at trace? Or is powdered not suitable?

I use powdered gm . I add it to my lye water before the lye , stick blend it well and add the lye slowly .I keep my lye jug in the sink and fill it with cold water after I have added the lye , to keep the solution cooler.

You will get a lighter color soap if you dissolve your lye in half the water called for in your recipe, then mix the powder with the rest of the water. Add the rest of your water after your mix your oils and lye.

I add my powdered GM to my oils and stick blend then add that to the lye/water. Seems to work. Any reason not to?

Thanks so much everyone. All of your replies have confirmed something I've noticed before on this site. There is always more than one way to do anything, and they can all work. I guess it just depends on whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Yes I add my oils to my lye water. I mix the lye water in a plastic bucket and heat the oils in the microwave or stovetop. I find the oils less splashy than the lye water.

LOL I get what you were asking! I thought you were worried that I was adding oils to lye water rather than lye water to oils and I couldn't figure out why it would make a difference as it's all stick blended anyway. I'm sure you've heard/seen just about every mistake though and nothing would surprise you anymore:-)
