Teach Soap

Hi. I need help finding a recipe for a simple body butter. Is there a % to use for butters vs. oils? I have green tea butter, cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter, lavender butter, lime butter, coffee butter, and shea/aloe butter. I have a few various oils too. Please help!

Cocoa butter might be too hard for this application. Try some of the other butters at 80% with 20% liquid oils.

I've seen a lot of recipes where the proportions are 50:50 - is 80:20 better?

My daughter and I experimented with a body butter recipe (which disappeared immediately after us making it! I think it left my house and went to Wrong Town). It has a lovely feel and fragrance but is greasy on the skin. The recipe I was going to try next was: 10 oz shea butter, 6 oz Apricot kernel oil, 2 tsp corn starch and .5 oz fragrance oil. Does anyone have an idea whether this will be a better recipe and do the proportions sound better?

When you make your body butter, do you melt your butter and then add the oil and then whip or do you just start whipping with it solid?

If you butters are easy to mix at room temp, then add them to your liquid oils and mix. If not, gently melt the butters just till they are soft. Start whipping while adding the liquid oils at a small amount at a time.

Ahh, maybe that has been my problem. I use shea butter, it is soft at room temp but I thought I needed to melt it then whip it. It sure takes a long time, even with the put in freezer, take out, whip, repeat method. LOL! Thanks. I will try just whipping it at room temp.
