Do I really need to buy a heat gun or can I get away with my blow dryer?

Any opinions?

My blow dryer cost 3xs the amount of a heat gun-not being snobby, I'm just a Chi fanatic. :shock:

Wondering if it will work just as well?

It depends on the gauge of the shrink wrap. I use a heat gun. It's faster.

Does the heat gun burn your hands/fingers? Hmmm...maybe this blow dryer isn't a good idea. I'm trying to decide if I really want to invest in a heat gun.

What gauge of wrap do you recommend?

Heat gun creates heat without all the blowing of air around like a hair dryer does. You just need to move the heat gun very quickly back and forth. I haven't burned my fingers yet. Try 60 or 80 gauge. It's more heavy duty and it's less prone to tearing.

from what I've read a blow dryer doesn't get hot enough, that's why you need a heat gun

I tried with my hair dryer and l couldn't get it to work properly so l bought an embossing gun that they use for scrap booking and it works really well and it doesn't seem to get as hot as the proper heat guns.I bought it new through Ebay from England for $12.50 Australian and with postage it come to around $20 which was a lot cheaper for me than an ordinary heat gun.

Hair dryers work on the thin saran wrap that you buy at the grocery store. That is what I always use.
If you get thicker, fancier wrap that's when you need more heat.
