Hi All,
Well, I decided to change my wrapping/packing of my soaps to using shrink wrap. I ordered a recommended film according to their website and what others posted here on TeachSoap from the National Shrinkwrap company and a heat gun. Now a representative from National Shrinkwrap has contacted me telling me that I will not get the look I want for wrapping my soaps and that I need to purchase an Impulse Sealer and Wire to "seal" the shrink wrap that I purchased. My gosh, it seems ridiculous on the amounts of money I'm spending! Do I really need this? Or am I just being conned into buying more?

Very frustrated today-sorry. I do not feel like spending another $75 dollars on these things he says I need. Hmmm, I'm wondering how many soaps he wraps a week? Maybe I should ask?

Please help.

Thanks and many hugs despite my crankiness.

Personally it sounds like he's trying to get you to buy more, maybe so he can get some more commission. If the heat gun works fine then you'll be fine.

I bet he doesn't seal soaps, probably hasn't even used the products he sells

A lot depends on how you are going to shrink wrap them. If you are going to leave the ends open like a sleeve, then no you don't need an impulse sealer. But, if you are going to totally wrap them, then yes an impulse sealer is a must to seal the end before you heat gun, shrink it. An impulse sealer with a 'cutter' isn't necessary, scissors work just as good. 8)

No, you are not being scammed. I tried your method for awhile, and the difference in doing it that way, both in looks and in time saved, is remarkable. National is the most helpful retailer I've come across, and was just giving you good advice. I bought their wand kit and it turned the job of wrapping from a terribly time consuming, dreaded chore, to something that just takes a few minutes, and no big deal.

I don't know the company at all so can't comment but have you ever thought of using cello? I use it and it's so easy, just cut and wrap (like a Christmas present). I love how it makes the soap look (expensive) and you just need the cello, a scissors and some clear tape. No need for lots of equip.

Just a thought.

Unfortunately I already purchased this huge supply of shrink wrap and a heat gun. I'm thinking I may use the shrink wrap to make gift baskets instead, not sure. Otherwise it's a lot of money down the drain. Also not sure if it's shrink wrap for gift baskets as I remember their site said good for soaps.

What exactly is cello? I know I've tried saran wrap/cling wrap and it is not my method of choice for packaging.

Please tell me more about cello if you can- maybe a picture of a cello wrapped soap, where to buy, procedures-do I need equipment i.e. a heat gun to wrap the soap?

Thanks!

You will need the shrink wrap film and heat gun, regardless. They are part of the kit. I think there is a good video on National's website that explains how it's done. You can order the pieces separately, so just check out the price without the film and gun.

What kind of soap are you wrapping? Are they all uniform in shape - square, rectangle?

I'm wrapping loaf slices, circles, squares, rectangles and other molds that I have. So I guess a variety will be wrapped.

What exactly is this Impulse Sealer? What is it's purpose? Does anyone know?

I have not seen it on WSP or BB Soap Queen videos.

:)

Impulse sealer will seal all the open sides so your MP soap will be protected. I use my impulse selaer quite a bit as I purchase my shrink wrap in a large rolls. That way I can make any size wrap I want.

If you live by a Harbor Freight Tools you can buy an inexpensive impulse sealer for about $20.00 I bought my additional impulse sealer from Harbor Freight Tools and wished I had known about it before I blew almost $100 on my first!

I have an impulse sealer. Sometimes I use it, sometimes I don't. I have certain wholesale customers that prefer one kind of wrap to another and I needed the sealer for them. I used Grizzly in WA.
