I've come to realize that when I sell my own soaps at a craft show I make a larger profit than if I sell on consignment, usualy. Also A customer is buying my soaps to resell in her husbands office. What is good business as far as what percent of your business you should sell yourself, sell on consignment and how much wholesaling to do?Kinda of like not putting all my eggs in one basket. I seem to be doing all 3 at once. Is this good?

I assume you are factoring in all your expenses (booth rental, travel, lodging etc.) when speaking about profits at craft shows.

I have done very few craft shows, but hope to do more. Just locating them has been a problem for me. I have done very well with wholesale and website sales during the holidays. My largest market is wholesale, although I do think that doing all three is a good idea. I'm out for every nickel I can make, and like the variety of methods. IMO craft shows are a good way to get one on one input on your product, and collect some of that retail profit that is lost with wholesale. On the down side, you have to sell an awful lot of soap just to break even.

I think that if I spend 25.00 to do a local show and only do 100.00 in buisness I've paid 25% to be there. And I've always done better than 100.00 .The profit on CP is very good if you buy in bulk and know a good price when you see it. If I pay 25%-30% consignment it expands my range of customers. I love to hear people say I've used your soap before.
As far as learning where the shows are I get that information from other crafters at the shows Im doing. Get in 1 show and talk to people, make friends and they will be all kinds of helpful. Sometimes the best sale I make all day is with other crafters.
