I don't see much Off Topic stuff that is way Off Topic so far, so I hope it's ok that I post this. Don't shoot me if it's not :)

I just wondered how many of you that do put up a Christmas tree have done so and when?

I put mine up the first weekend in December. It was actually Friday technically. This is the soonest for me but I'm so loving having it up. I went with LED lights this year and some of the bulbs are the bigger ones like you would have seen on the trees from the early 60's (oops I think I just dated myself). I always go with a live tree. I just love the smell.

Btw, if there is a place for board rules [like what is appropriate to post and so on] would someone please direct me.

When my kids were little...my tree went up thanksgiving night (artificial, of course)..after the turkey festivities....we decorated in the evening...a tradition that stayed with my kids... :D ...the rest of the decorations went up the week end after thanksgiving... :)

If I had put the tree up on the 1st Dec (as we ussually do), my two kids (4 1/2 and 2 1/2) would not have been able to contain themselves!! LOL! We put it up along with LOADS of tinsel all around the house on Sunday. Even now, they are excited beyond belief!! They're still young enough to believe the bootprints from the chimney really are Santa's. So a wonderful time for them. Every morning, they ask if it's Christmas yet. DS didn't want to go to school yesterday. 'Why not?!' I asked ... 'Because I want to sit and look at the Christmas tree.'  Kids eh?!?

What a fun thread!

It was tradition to put up the Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving when I was growing up. Seems like I remember some years when I was really little, me, my mom, and my dad would put up the tree together, and some years me, my dad, and my younger brother would put it up while Mom did the Black Friday shopping thing (I stay out of that mess). Dad also usually put up the house lights the day after Thanksgiving, too.

Even now that I'm out on my own, I still put up the Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. No house lights, though. Now, I usually put up the tree while my husband waxes both of the cars. That's our tradition now. Is that weird?

Here's our tree this year (I hope it's not too blurry -- I took it without a flash). It's not real, although I do love the smell of real trees. I put it up Nov. 27, and it sat there for two weeks with no presents under it, looking as sad as the day after Christmas. We've got gifts under it now:

Happy holidays, everybody!

We moved from Colorado back to the NW two years ago. We had kittens then so we didn't put up a tree until this year. It was the fake tree from Colorado, we bought led lights for it. We went to the dollar store and bought cheapie plastic shiny balls to decorate because I wasn't going to chance breaking some of my expensive ornaments. The first ball came off the tree about 5 minutes into decorating! We now get up to 1/2 dozen or so balls in various rooms of the house. My hubby has now twisted the fake branches in hopes of keeping some of the balls on the tree. They have managed to maneuver some of those off. I'm hoping to be able to put some of my ornaments on next year. Maybe they will be used to a tree and won't bother it. I can't wait til next year to buy a real tree again. It just doesn't seem like Christmas without one.

Hope all of you enjoy a wonderful holiday, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanza....

We put ours up about a week ago. I always want to do it sooner but hubby always want to wait.... It is real, I love real ones.... smelling the tree when you come home is just part of Christmas for me. =)

I was worried about out little 1 1/2 yr old daughter, but she is doing great! She loves to look at it and like the 'wights' turned on. She will touch it a little but has very gentle and not taken any ornaments off yet. :D

Nice tree jrose!
I think it would be funny to find bulbs all over as long as they were plastic ones. I think dogs and cats think the trees were put up just for them!

Here is my tree. A little messy underneath but gives it that lived in look lol! Hope the pic isn't too big.

Trees have been up for 2 weeks.... but this year they are each only 18 inches high.... we are leaving for Maine next week... will get to see my new grandson for the first time (will be 4 weeks old). Even if we do not put up a real tree I put one of my husbands pine candles near it that adds that smell that most of grew up associating with the holidays. Merry Christmas to all!

Oh, wow, tlc, beautiful tree! It makes me think of when I was little -- my grandmother used to hang candy canes on the tree just like you do. I remember my cousin and I eating candy canes off the tree while we waited to open presents. The grownups would always play the card game Spades until the first team reached, like, 100 million points, and THEN we could open presents. Aack!

Your home looks very festive!
