Teach Soap

Hi, all ... need to pick your brains. I've seen references on various soap sites about spritzing with rubbing alcohol 'or witch hazel'. Can anyone tell me if either of these two work better than the other? Reason I ask is because the only way I can get rubbing alcohol is to buy it off the web (here in the UK), and that's tedious and expensive, and being a bear of very little brain I never notice that I'm running out until I'm down to the last spritz. Witch Hazel, though, is available in big bottles from the local chemist, so if that works the same way I'd love to know, please. It would be an expensive and miserable thing to find out after the event (wish I had a few pounds for each soap that's separated as soon as it hit the bath!) ... and I also like the fact that WH is natural, not chemical.

So please help! It's been a bad evening: knocked a brown pigment bottle and a chocolate FO all over the table, then dropped the FO top into the soap ... I've now got brown hands and smell of chocolate.

Witch hazel has a lot more water than alcohol. I don't think you would get the same resuts.

Witch Hazel tends to have around 14% alcohol so sadly does not work the same as rubbing alcohol =(

Surgical spirit ... that's what I use, the smell goes off completely. When I make my soap, I make it in 1.8kg batches and use the SS and, in 24 hours it's all completely set and no SS smell.

No problems in using it at all. I believe you can get Isopropyl Alcohol from Maplins if there's one near you and that'd probably be better.

I get my rubbing alcohol from eBay. You can get a litre for £6 (inc. p&p). I thought that was pretty cheap, but didn't shop around much though. I find it does stink when you first spray it, but it soon disapates.

what about everclear, it is a whole lot stronger than vodak, don't know if they sell it in the uk, but it is some nasty stuff, my grandma used to pour it over blueberries in a jar and let it sit for six months, never molded, and you did not want to get even one blueberry near a open flame,
