I have heard so much about this scent and plan to try it tomorrow. I've read that it discolors because of the vanilla, but wondered if it has a light or dark discoloration. BB suggested a mica vein, and I have cellini red, cornflower blue and yellow. Would any of those show up or does the soap discolor to a fairly deep brown? The scent is intriguing oob, so I'm looking forward to trying it in soap.

Mine came out light brown. The cellini red sounds good.

Thanks a million, Soapbuddy. I think I'll give that a try.

I soaped dragonsblood using CPOP, but had a problem with raised beading (ash?) on the tops. It sort of brushes off or can be shaved off, but the shaving removes some of the original planned texture. :?

Any hints for covering/not covering or other ways to cut down on bumps would be greatly appreciated. This problem crops up inconsistently, and I'm not sure of the cause. Thanks

Do you let your batch completely cool before taking it out of the mold? Do you use beeswax? Do you cover the top with wax paper or saran wrap?

Hi Soapbuddy,
The soap was cool after spending overnight in the oven after heat was turned off. I didn't use beeswax. I did try it in a batch, but had it precipitate back into little beads after I'd melted it and then mixed melted oils with my cooler liquid oils. I didn't use a covering as I wasn't sure if wax paper or saran wrap worked ok with CPOP (I heat to 170° F, then turn off after 1st hour). Do coverings rest directly on the soap? It seems that the smooth soap top gets sort of rearranged when I lay something gently on top. Sorry for all the ????s. You always have so many great answers. :)

You're right. Saran wrap wouldn't work for CPOP. If you have the time, would you be willing to try non-gel?
I melt all my oils butters & beeswax together, except for olive oil. After it's all melted I then add the olive. I haven't had a problem with the beads precipitating out. How hot are your oils/butters when you add the liquid oils?

I certainly can try a non-gel. That usually works better for me, but I thought as with Cedar and Saffron, the color might be better with a gel. Usually my melted butters, solids are about 130°F, but as I recall this tmeperature had to be hotter when I used beeswax which didn't melt until quite hot. Thanks for all of your suggestions. They always help. :D

My butters/solid oils and beeswax is at about 150 before I add any liquid oils. I do let all of it cool down to about 110 before it gets mixed with lye. Try it non-gelled and see how you like it. :)

Thanks a million, Soapbuddy. I'll certainly try this. I'll get an order off to BB that will include some more Dragonsblood then it's off to a non-gel with beeswax included.
