I was wondering if once you unmold would it be best to leave it in the block instead of cutting. Cure it in the brick form for 4-6 wks. Any ideas?

I have seen it sold in stores in whole brick and you cut as you buy.

The soap would have to be softer at cure in order to cut slices out of it at a later date. My formula hardens pretty fast, so this method would not work for me.

Most of the time I unmold after 24 hours or so and then leave the loaf set for 2 days then I slice it. Some will not let me wait but most I can.

IMO it depends on the soap. You don't say if you're doing cp or hp which I believe makes a tremendous difference. Doing cphp, I know that if I leave my lard or co/lard soaps longer than 12 hours my soap cutter (wire) wont go through them and I have to cut them by hand. With the lard, I'm lucky if I can cut them at 12 hours, and I get cleaner cuts if I do it within 2-3 hours while its still soft. Note that all of my recipies include salt (usually 1tsp ppo) which makes for a much harder bar. However, with my 100% castile soap, I can cut that up to a week later and still get a clean cut. If I leave my salt bars longer than an hour it takes a table saw to cut them!

If you want to experiment, I recommend doing your cutting as usual and then week by week (or even day by day) slice a bit off of one bar and see where you feel you get your best cuts. I have seen soap sold by the block but have never tried this, hmmmmmm maybe time for some experimenting of my own.

I'm just learning this myself...my first batch I cut after 2 days - no problem
My second batch - I forgot to wait a couple of days I started to cut when I noticed that it was crumbling. So I stopped and waited a couple of more days to cut the rest.
I'm thinking I can rebatch the crumbled ones fully cure -

I always do cp with goats milk then unmold within 24 hrs and cut. Get great bars that way. I just saw Zum bars goats milk at Huckleberries sold in the block and started wondering.
