Teach Soap

I have seen pictures of goats milk soap that are really white or off white, mine is always tan. I found a lot of the oils are not white either. I've read and have started doing the non-gel and freezer method, thanks to Soapbuddy, but can't figure out how to get a white soap. Anything you can tell me would be appreciated. My second question is storage. I have a cabinet in my garage I can use. My question is will the cold hurt the soap after it's cured? I live in NY and the garage is not heated.

If you are using fresh goatmilk, it must be frozen and pounded into small chunks, weighed out, then add your weighed out lye. Stir, stir, stir until the milk is melted. Then you need to use it asap. I do not add the lye until all my other ingredients are melted and cooled to room temp. That way, as soon as the lye is dissolved you can add it immediately to your oils. The longer the lye/milk mixture sits, the more discolored it becomes ( the lye starts cooking the milk ). If you use liquid goatmilk, even cold, the lye ususally turns the milk orange.

Now if you are already doing the above, or if you use powdered goatmilk, then the culprit is probably a fragrance oil.

Thanks, Knine. Are there any oils that I should or should not use and does that also play into the final color of the soap? Does powdered goat's milk have the same benefits or is bottled or condensed better?

If you don't gel, use 50% of your liquids as water, use light color oils/butters and then add the other 50% of liquid as milk, it should come out a very light color. You can also use titanium dioxide to whiten it.
