Teach Soap

Finally, I was able to resoap using cedar and saffron and Magic's and Justkates suggestions for CPOP and color. My first trial and error was to order bordeaux "glitter" mica and brush onthe top of the soap just warm from the oven. Appropriately, it was Halloween, and my soap looked like it ws ready for the local parade. .After reordering regular bordeaux and brown oxide, I turned out some acceptable soap. I trimmed away the original glitter tops; so now I have 4 batches including the original drab lavender. I must say they all smell good; and now that I've tried regular bordeaux mica as an accent, I plan to add it as red highlight elsewhere. Thanks for all the good tips. The scent was too good to give up on.

Those look great, Scents! Your swirl pattern is terrific. I even like the orange. You're right, it is too good a scent to give up on. Cedar and Saffron is one luscious fo. Good for you for giving it another shot and doing such a great job! Really nice photographic presentation, too.

Thanks, Justkate and Spotted Cat. I'm glad I tried something new and have some other color accents to work with now. Plus the dining room (aka soap emporium) smells great. Thanks, too, on the photo. I waited a week for the sun to come out and brighten things up. Finally, I set up some freezer paper to brighten the background, so I guess I'll remember that it worked. As to swirls, I think that was my 1st decorative attempt while soaping, and I do enjoy it; but was trying to branch out - hence the 2-tone bar; but geesh, how drab could I get? Oh well, now I have an excuse to "experiment" with other techniques.

I like the two tone bar. It has clean lines and I like the overall look. It's simple but appealing. Heck, I was thinking of trying that after seeing yours. Good thinking with the freezer paper background, too. That did work well.

Thanks, Justkate. The two-tone was actually pretty simple. I just poured about 2/3 of my soap into the mold at a thin trace, then mixed my color with the remaining 1/3. The soap set up so quickly, that by the time I mixed in the color, the bottom layer was ready to support the colored layer. I just had a preconceived idea of snowy white and a bright lavender; but that's for a different fragrance. Fragrances and colors are surprising, so it's good to expect the unexpected.
