Got quite a surprise when we cut this one! I made this a couple days ago, and I knew I had made a 'mistake'. I was using a blackberry and vanilla FO, and wanted to do white base with deep purple swirl. So we put TD in the lye water as usual, FO to my oils as usual, and wanted to use a vanilla nuetralizer that I had picked up (but never used before). Of course, I didn't read the instructions (there was the mistake!) and just added the neutralizer to my Fo and oils. When we added the lye water to the oils, WOW did it turn a BEAUTIFUL blood orange color. It traced quickly, but behaved. When we poured it into the mold we knew the color wouldn't last, and with in 2 days it turned fudge brown. but imagine our surprise when we cut it this morning and found this:

Too bad we didn't scent it with coconut!! :D

Anyone ever seen something like this happen before? The soap seems fine, LOVELY texture, I actually am looking foward to using it!!
Susan

Yes I've had that happen to me. Your center might continue to darken as it cures. It's happened a couple of times. Once when I used Spellbound FO, didn't use any colorant and the outside was pretty brown but the inside was a tan, it darkened to the same dark brown. The other time I used a pigment and the pigment migrating to the outside and the inside was a different color and that didn't change. It was really kinda cool, looked like it had a rind. It was a fruity FO but for the life of me I can't remember which one, I know it didn't have vanilla in it tho. I why it happens.

Magichands might know.

That happens with one of my soaps too. Over time my soap gets completely dark; as dark as the outside. Pink Sugar FO is notorious for this. Vanillas do this too.

I had that happen too. I was really shocked when I cut it and saw that. I used Coffee Mocha FO. Eventually, the inside turned dark like the outside. It's weird isn't it?

Well, yep, it did turn all brown.....but a gorgeous dark mahogony brown! Now I wonder if I can recreate this...I didn't add any colorant at all, only fo. I think I'll try another batch

it's from the fo discoloring - the vanilla. it happens with all vanilla.

soon you'll be asking how you can prevent it, lol.
