If you are familiar with KamaSutra products, they have this dusting powder called "Honey Dust". Well I bought some lip balms from a company last year at a craft show. I called them to find out who the supplier is for the honey flavor for their lip balms. Well she will not tell me, she told me I needed to find that out for myself like she did. She was not very nice. To top it off, she went out of business.

Anywho... I really like this lip balm and want to make my own. So if anyone knows where I can get this flavor oil that smells just like the "Honey Dust", please let me know. Thanks!

this might sound stupid but could it just be honey they used in the lip balm?

by the way can someone tell me what is used in lip balm for sun protection?

thank you for that good advice. I was just going to play around with lip butter and body butter after christmas since I've got a few weeks down time till I'll be making the spring soaps.

I've made lip balm with honey. To keep it from seperating, I add it to the melted beeswax and oil and beat it with a whisk while it cools. You have to move fast at that point to get it into the tubes or pots, but the honey does not seperate. If it gets too hard, I put it in the microwave for short spurts till I have it all in tubes. It has a slight sweet taste but not a real honey taste. I only added a small amount of honey to the balm recipe.

And yet I see sooo many soapers doing it in various online venues. And, making claims about acne, eczema, psoriasis, etc. Skin rejuvenation claims, rehydration claims, humectant claims, aromatherapy claims, calling soap "natural" when it clearly contains synthetic fragrance oils and/or colorants. A lot of refined oils aren't exactly natural either. Neither are all essential oils natural given some of the extraction processes. I'm amazed by some of the claims I've seen. What am I missing? Is homecrafted bath and body largely an unregulated industry? Complaint based? And how do those of you who don't make those claims compete with so many who do?


That's a good question. From my understanding, regulators can issue fines by what is posted on your web site or if someone "turns you in" --- which I don't really know how that's done. I know we changed the name of our lip balms because the word "balm" implies medical treatment..... geesh.

My customers come back after trying my soaps.... they tell and buy for their friends..... people start looking for you at the shows year after year. I'm getting to a point where it is a challenge to keep up--- that's a good problem! A good product will sell it self---- good customer service helps that along.

As for the Honey Dust - Honey flavor, well come to find, KamaSutra does not make the Honey Dust in Honey anymore. It smelled just a tad different from just plain Honey Flavor Oil. That is why I loved it so much.
