Teach Soap

Hello again,

I want to make a rose soap.


I could use next ingredients:

cocoa butter
palm fat
rape oil (colza oil)
sweetalmond oil
rose EO

Could anybody tell me how much should I put in that soap each oil/fat , how much lye and water?

The soap should be moisturizing. I would like to make 1 kg soap.

I use the soapcalc: www. soapcalc.net , but it seems I dont have enogh experiences yet how to use it.

I'm happy to help design a fun recipe that you like. Because Colza Oil isn't in the Bramble Berry Sap Value calculator, I looked up the SAP value here:

It's almost identical to Canola Oil SAP value so I'll use that to make a recipe.

This will make a fairly hard bar that has small bubbles.

16 oz. Colza Oil
16 oz. Palm Oil
3 oz. Cocoa Butter
4 oz. Sweet Almond Oil

13 oz. Water
5.25 oz. Lye

Let us know how it goes. And of course, if you haven't checked into all the safety needs for soapmaking, please definitely do so. Here is a brief overview I did but I recommend more research than just the one blog post. The Soapmaker's Companion is a great place to start.

After much trial and error, I've come up with a few tips to making rose soap with all natural ingredients without completely breaking the bank - mind you it will still be expensive.

First, you can supplement your rose absolute with Rosewood Essential Oil, also known as Bois de Rose. It's much cheaper and blends really nicely with rose absoute. Secondly, a transparent soap holds its scent much better than a regular cold processed soap. If you're going to spend the $$ on the rose absolute, you don't want the scent fading quickly. To make transparent soap, I recommend that you follow the instructions in the ever-popular book "The Soap Maker's Companion" by Susan Miller Cavitch. Her book provides a pretty easy recipe and process for transparent soap. Other recipes I've seen are super complicated, but this one isn't too bad. It is harder than regular cold processed soap and it does require additional ingredients but if you're going for rose soap, it's totally worth it. Her recipe combined with the rosewood essential oil and just a bit of rose absolute produces a beautiful and naturally fragrant transparent soap. It's one of my favorites and the only one I spend the time making transparent.
