Teach Soap

i made C.P. soap with a recipe similar to the one on teachsoap, only mine makes about 3#. the problem i have had is that it gets soft after using it for a few days. my recipe is: 12oz coconut oil, 18.5oz. canola oil, 13oz olive oil, 6.1oz. lye, 12oz.distilled water, about 1.5 oz fragrance oil or essential oil and colorant. i have not tried your recipe from brambleberry yet. also, how much fragrance do you use in yours? thank you for your input. it is greatly appreciated. i love reading about all the new stuff, and want try it ALL.

I would let it cure longer. I normally use 0.7 oz. of fragrance PPO.

it has already set for about 6 weeks or more. thanks for your input.

You have 42.53% of canola in there. That's a very soft oil. If you're not averse to lard or tallow, that would give you a harder recipe. I would leave the canola out and rework your recipe. At that %, it's more prone to DOS. You could also add a butter of some sort; like shea or mango butter.

I would scale down your recipe to 16 ozs. then convert it to grams. Your recipe will be more accurate that way and less expensive.

You're welcome.
DOS means "dreaded orange spots". It means that you have you have extra "free floating" oil in there that got oxidized and went rancid.

Don't forget about cocoa butter too---- I love it! Conditioning, moisturizing and hardness. Some find it quickens trace---- it all depends on your recipe, but I don't have that problem, not even with flower fo's.
