Okay, second batch of soap. Used a new mold and a site on line to determine the changes in the recipe amounts to compensate for the size of the new mold. I screwed up and on 2 of the smaller amount oils I put the percentage (listed next to the amount in ounces) instead of the ounces! So I had about 2 1/2 times the amount of jojoba and castor oil! It still came to trace and I put the mold to bed. Do you think it will still turn out alright? Next time I print out the recipe I will highlight the amounts! I must be going a little senile!

It seems to be too much oil for me. I think there would be hundred % of oil superfatting in this case and thus your batch is very greasy, oily and still some oils have not been traced.

It is the recipe that Brambleberry sends with the Cold press soap kit, but enlarged to fit a new mold.
Avocado oil 2.85 oz (i put 7.1)
castor oil 1.43 oz (i put 3.6)
coconut oil 11.41 oz
jojoba oil 1.43 oz (i put 3.6)
olive oil 11.41 oz
palm oil 11.41 oz
total oils 39.93 (48.53)

Lye 6 oz
water 14 oz

energy fragrance oil .5 oz

it came to trace fine and looks like it set up in the mold fine (gelled then cooled). I put a little extra soap in a plastic mold, how do I get that one out?

Thanks.

You have
Avocado Oil 14.63%
Castor Oil 7.42%
Coconut Oil 23.51%
Jojoba Oil 7.42%
Olive Oil 23.51%
Palm Oil 23.51%

Avocado, Castor and jojoba ar all soft oils. It will most likely take a long time before this batch hardens. For a 10% superfat it would have been 6.22 ozs, of lye and you have even less. 14 ozs. of water is not too bad, but with all the soft oils at that much superfat, it could be prone to DOS. I would try to freeze it, so you could take it out of the mold, but be aware once the soap comes to room temp, it will be very soft. It could also be a bit sticky. You might not be able to cut it right away.

I agree with soapbuddy. I love avocado oil in soap, but it takes forever to harden IME. That oil combo, with that much of a superfat, will be soft for a long time.

I took the small soap out of the plastic mold (the extra that wouldn't fit in the loaf mold). It was fine, I had stuck the mold in the freezer for about 30 minutes and it popped right out. i'll try to unmold the loaf mold tomorrow, i'll probably stick that in the freezer right before unmolding, too. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for everything.

I'm really curious how this soap is after a few weeks of cure time? Do you have any updates?

So far, so good. No sign of DOS, it's curing fine, it will be 2 weeks old on sunday. Is that long enough of a cure time for me to try it out? I figured if it was bad, I could try to rebatch it a little at a time. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Soupbuddy,
I tried the soap out last night. It doesn't lather as much as I'd like, but it was okay. The scent was great, it stayed better than my first batches fragrance did. I used Vanilla oak for my first batch (that soap has great lather) and now you can barely smell it. I used Energy for this batch and it's still got a nice level of scent to it. Still no sign of DOS. Onto the next batch of soap and now I know to highlight my weights so I know exactly what I'm looking at. Thanks for the advice.

How much fragrance did you use PPO?

soapbuddy,
The first batch I only used .55 oz of Vanilla Oak fragrance oil for 28 oz of oil. It had a very strong scent up until about a week or so ago. The first couple of days after I made it the whole house smelled of Vanilla, not that I minded.
