Teach Soap

Hello Everyone,

I add 1% Titanium dioxide and 3%Sodium Lactate on CP soap, and the smell is quite different from the previous batch soap whose receipe is the same except without Titanium dioxide and Sodium Lactate.

The other different part is, the new batch soap appears some White Spots which should be caused by the un-dissolved Titanium dioxide powder(mix with superfat oil and E.O.). Could anyone tell me how to dissolve Titanium dioxide well? By the way, is there any side effect on the soap caused by Titanium dioxide? Thanks!

Is the TD water or oil soluble? Put a little bit on your finger and run water over it. If it dissolves it's water soluble. If not, it's oil dispersible. It's easier if you make a slurry with the TD, then add it to your soap. Don't do it as a superfat; you'll get specks. If this is cold process, adding things at superfat is not needed. At this point, lye is still very active and it will take whatever it wants.

Forgot to add: 3% of sodium lactate is a lot. Unless your recipe is extremely soft, 1% should be enough.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question...not even sure if it makes sense but say you're making 1kg of soap, would you have 1% of SL + 99% of oils or 1% on top of all your oils, i.e. ending up with 1kg 10gr (without the water, lye etc)

p.s. I read somewhere it makes firmer bars and would like to order some...cause you know we dont have enough soap at home I made already 6 batches!!!
