Teach Soap

I'm in the middle of testing it right now. It's surprisingly like a beautiful dark purple blue (not a teal) in my clear soap. Did you use it diluted? It is one incredibly strong little bottle. I did a full 8 ounce dilution and it's still strong.

I'll toss you my diluted color in the mail on Monday. Can you PM me with your address? I'll also send you some of the Pool Blue I've been playing with that looks a lot more like the Oceana color swatch on my monitor. And finally, I'm all over testing ratios to see what might be making it more purplish in my soap than it should be.

Back to your batch, is it diluted at all?

This is a pretty blue that you got, but mine was dark green before it was made into soap. I didn't dilute it. I ordered the 10 ml liquid, and just dropped it in melted MP soap. It got very dark, very fast. First drop turned a mirkish gray, then I got down to small squirts, it became a darker gray. I finally poured just a little in a white cup, and added several more small squirts to that (about 1/4 of a coffee cup of the already colored soap), and it started going green. I then got crazy... diluted it with clear, added some blue and the color when poured out on a white surface, looked okay... a bluish green.... not teal, but I thought it would do to use anyway. I see no color to it whatsoever, in the soap.

I'll have better light to photograph it tomorrow, and will try to do so. Happy me has been up half the night tonight, taking wholesale orders! I see more soaping on the horizon! It's 1:30 am, so better get some shut eye.

Can you do me a favor and dilute the color in at least 4 ounces of warm water? Make sure you get the warm water in the little bottle and shake, shake the extra little drops out. The color is made of 4 different colors (one of which is green) and one of the reasons we recommend diluting is because the green gets all clumpy and gooey. Diluting breaks those clumps up.

And then, try it again and let me know what happens?

In the meantime, my team is working on getting the perfect aqua and not the beautiful periwinkle blue I got. =)

Yes, I'll do this, as remember my finger turned a pretty color after I had washed the heck out of it. . I have dinner guest tonight, and more guest coming tomorrow, so don't wait up. I'll try to get it done tonight, after everyone leaves. Just stole a minute of computer time while they are out of the house.

I didn't know diluting was recommended. Makes me feel better about this small quantity.

Finally, life has slowed down enough to get this photographed and on-line. The gray area on the end is made from the Oceana color. The darkest area is what I had gotten when I was trying to arrive at the ultimate teal color. It is nearly black with a green cast that you can't see here, or in the soap. The clearer gray is when I dlluted it considerably with clear, uncolored soap base. Remember that I had added some blue to this in order to try and arrive at a teal.

This afternoon, I diluted the color as instructed - small bottle, diluted in 4 oz. water.

The water when I washed my hands was the right color, so hopes were high. The color in the soap was improved, but still a grayed teal. Here are two shots of the soap I made afterwards. There are pieces inside that might make seeing the color a bit difficult. The clearer areas in the blue-gray section on the end is the Oceana, without the addition of any other color. Before it was poured, it appeared to have more color than it does in the soap. Those dark areas are scraps from the earlier batch, and expected to bleed into the clearer areas. The fragrance is that great Pearberry I ordered, after receiving a sample.

Back to the blue...did you put some mica on top? It was so sparkly! I finally followed directions (like I should have initially) and diluted my lab colors. Seems I have my first perfectly colored batch!!! It's still gelling so I'll let it cool and cut tomorrow. Hopefully I got a pretty swirl.

How do you overcome the yellows? I use cocoa butter, olive, and palm all of which lend a yellow to the soap. So the aqua will probably be more green and the pink closer to a burgundy.

Ha ha. Well, the joke is on me. It turns out that I had (formerly named) Ocean La Bomb (why we previously had the such similar name for two colors in our formulary is beyond me - we had changed the website name to Midnight Blue La Bomb years ago but failed to update our our labeling on our little pulling bins) so today, when I got the right color, I diluted it in 8 ounces of warm water and came up with these:





I'm really pleased with how they turned out. They look almost exactly the way my screen swatches look like on the computer.

I can't stress enough how strong the colors are. I literally used a few drops to get the lightest of the colors and the ones that are semi-opaque are a 80% clear, 20% white soap. The teal comes out more strongly when contrasted with the white soap addition.

Just examined your photos - LOVE THEM! You are a genius with the soap rocks.

Dilute the LC more, in 8 oz. of water, and I think you'll be happy with the color. When the color is used in too strong concentrations, it looks all teal-y black (speaking from experience playing with the **correct** color today). The good news is that this color will last you a LONG time so it's a very cost effective color. =))
