Hello,

I put additive(dried rose) in olive oil jar(alternative way to ). I put the jar beside the window(I live in sunshine area) beacuse some people said it is a way to make the process. I got some questions on it.

First, could I heat the jar(oil & rose) on oven to expedite the process? If it is ok, will it shorten the life of oil? how long can the oil last?

Second, if I adopt the sunshine way, how long do I need to put it beside window(some said one month)? What is max period to put it beside sunshined window?

last, is the method better than heat the additive in water directly(and use the heated water to make soap)?

Thansk in advance!

Erica

what is it that you're hoping to accomplish with the dried roses? are you trying to have rose scented soap, or did you have something else in mind?

Except rose(or other additive) scented soap, I also hope the property of additive can 'merge' with the oil. Thanks!

Whatever properties (or scent) there might be in the rose petals will get eaten up by the lye. I would save it for leave on products instead.

Hi Soapbuddy,

How do we put solid additive into CP soap? Since you said what ever will be eaten by lye, do you mean we can not even cook solid additive in water before mix with lye? If it is so, does it mean there is only E.O. or F.O. additive which are useful? Thanks

If you're trying to add scent, yes, you need to use either EO or FO. The rose petals will not add any scent to the finished soap.

I would use my rose petals and lavender to infuse oils and use these oils for hand creams or lotions. I agree with the others that any oil infused with dry petals will not keep its scent during the soap making process.
You can also put these dried petals in a blender and blend up fine, then add to a body powder recipe.

Now I know scent wo'nt be kept. But how about the functions(preperties) of thoses additives? Will those functions still work after saponification?

Also, when you're infusing oils, the more fresh the herb or the petal, the better. I was very lucky to take a Native American class on infusing native plants and herbs this year and they stressed the concept of fresh herbs. They briefly dried them for like a day and then cut them before infusing. The salves and balms we made that day are incredible.

So, if I want to make a shampoo bar for blond hair, if I infuse the olive oil with dried calendula and chamomille they will get lost at the contact with the lye, same if I make my chamomille and calendula tea to mix with the lye instead of pure water?
