I just bought a tube of 100% silicone for windows at Walmart. It was really messy, I think I could have done a better job with it than I did. I had some areas on the soap when it came out that I had to clean up. I found a site that has pourable silicone for $59 for 1/2 gallon. That didn't seem too bad, as you could probably do several molds with it.

I'm not sure I am convinced that soap from molds sell well enough to go further with this idea. I shouldn't judge from this, but at the one small fair I did do, I had my rocks, and a few made from molds. No one even picked up one of those from molds or gave them a second glance. It might have just been "the day."

I bought the silicone caulking a couple of years ago and made a mold with it. Or should I say tried. It never completely hardened up and stayed sticky for a very long time. I ended up throwing it away. Sounds like you did better than me.

Supposedly, it only sticks to itself. However, we had a small, stone mummy we had brought back from Egypt. I was going to mold it & put it inside a clear soap, or on top of one. I put that silicone around it, and it almost never dried. It dried quickly on the scarab, but not this little thing. It took days to harden inside. Then when I tried to remove it, it was STUCK. I broke the mummy, trying to get it out. Maybe it was too porus, and i just didn't realize it. Trust me though, it DOES stick to other things besides itself. That mummy wasn't the only thing it stuck to.... metal, glass...

I do think the pourable silicone would do better. Maybe it would do best if you did it in layers. Light coating, let it dry, then another coat.

I'd used it a few years ago in connection with my sculpture and had no trouble at all. The scarab just popped out, clean as a whistle, but not the other stuff. I might just make clay models if I choose to do any more molds.

Two new soaps for you to have a look at - the first one didn't go quite to plan but fits the idea I had for a more masculine soap - fragranced with Pomegranate Noir (a unisex fragrance blend of pomegranates, raspberries, plums & pink peppercorns on a base of frankincense, patchouli & dark spicy woods) which I find quite a unisex fragrance anyway - it uses three bases, two SLS free (which aren't clear which I'm not sure I like), one of which was coloured with two different micas to make the dark purple and the other a light purple and the third base was goatsmilk - all with added Apricot Kernel oil and Lamesoft (an additional moisturising factor).

This one is fragranced with an allergen free FO that is a blend of sweet floral nectarines & juicy mandarins complimented by peach & plum on a creamy vanilla base - and I am not kidding you, it is AMAZING!!! I adore the fragrance - also with Apricot Kernel Oil added and Lamesoft. This has two clear glycerine bases, one orange and one yellow with two types of golden mica and one part goatsmilk base.

Great job honey! The first one looks a soft mountain landscape.

The first one happened completely by accident - new base and I think it's denser than my previous clear base and so acted completely differentely. In fact, both soaps were made using pretty much the same method but turned out completely differently. Oddly the first one I thought was a dud but people seem to love it!

burntmill,

I love both of your soaps, that first one looks yummy.

Honey,

That first one looks so neat and it does look like a landscape.
