Hey everybody, I went looking for palm oil today and could only find red palm oil. Is that the only color it comes in?

It also comes white refined. If you don't find it in your area, it's available online.

Have to jump in here as I use this red palm a lot. . ... NOT THE SAME. You will have a bright orange bar and most of the time, the lather is colored a bit yellow. It is great in CPOP and in CP, but not in fridge gels unless you want cheddar cheese colored soap. It also has a bit of an earthy smell. Also, if you bought the red palm cooking oil (crostino or some brand like that), it is a very liquid oil and not at all like the palm oil you want for beautiful, white or cream, hard bars.

However, I found palm shortening (spectrum) at the grocery store and it worked just like the palm oil you want. You may want to try that instead.

Palm oil can also be yellow. Melts to a golden color. That's the *organic, sustainable source, orangutan and rainforest friendly palm oil from Columbus Foods/ Soaper's Choice. Other vendors may carry it too. I haven't found a local supply yet.

That makes me feel much better about my yellow palm oil! Does it affect the coloring of soaps? Could be why I'm having such a time with blues and purples...between the olive and palm, I'm fighting green or gray.

It will always affect your coloring, if you are using unrefined that's yellow.

When you're done with the orange stuff, just leave it out. Soap does not need palm to be good soap.

You are lucky over the border, I was not able to find palm kernel oil north of the border, any of the usual suppliers

Palm kernel is still a dilemma for me. Rainforest and orangutans. I'm personally more concerned about other things in my own country but sustainably sourced palm oils, rainforests and orangutans are a big deal to a whole lot of people.

How about tallow as a sub for palm Are people upset by dead cows? At least it would be a way to use up ALL the cow and not just steaks and roasts. We get our beef from a grass fed ranch. Bet he'd give me all the beef fat I could handle! People are so funny about things. They can look past the starving people living on the streets but are upset by the orangutans and rainforests in a far off land.

I'm not sure what I'm going to switch to when my big pail of yellow palm is gone. I'm really good at making pink, green, and orange too. Probably palm kernel so I can get some pretty colors.

Everybody has issues of one kind or another
