Hey all! I've decided to finally get started into soapmaking. I was probably on the brambleberry website for like 2 hours last night just looking at all the different molds, colors and watching Anne Marie's channel on youtube. Needlesstosay, I was very inspired and excited to get started! So I'm just wondering what are the best things to get started with? I was thinking about getting the following:

M&P sampler kit (since it has a little bit of each base)

swirl kit (because it's awesome looking)

and the best of BB fragrance oil samplers

I feel like I'm missing a lot though. I saw a few different molds I liked, but it says stuff like "4 cavities" and I'm guessing that means 4 of the molds on the one sheet? Can you use molds for any type of base or are some of those strickly for things like cold processing (probably a stupid question but whatever lol)

btw, I was just looking at some of the pics you guys posted, and I must say I'm very intimidated/nervous. I want so badly for my soaps to look like that, but I guess I'm not confident enough (plus I'm pretty much starting from scratch so that doesn't help).

any help is greatly appreciated!! thanks!
<3 megan :D

Welcome!

All the kits - actually all the products are incredible! I just started soapmaking recently and everything I have purchased so far from Brambleberry is great quality and customer service is very helpful and so nice :)

Just go crazy with your soaps! the best part of soapmaking is getting creative after learning the basics -

Hi, Megan,

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to soaping!

I can tell how excited you are, and that's great. It is lots of fun. :D

There was a similar thread a little while ago that might be helpful for you: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2171

Lots of folks seem to start with sampler packs of bases, micas, fragrances, and a couple of molds and going from there. Hardware-wise, you'll need some glass Pyrex measuring cups for melting your M&P base in the microwave, if that's your method (I like the 4-cup size), mixing spoons, some sort of scale, measuring spoons or droppers for fragrance, a cutting board and cutter for dicing up your M&P base. Stuff like that. There's more on that in the thread referenced above and lots of good advice!

And yes, "four cavities" means that there are four individual molds on a sheet. I am a M&P soaper myself, and use those kind of molds all the time.

I hope you enjoy soaping! It's all about having fun. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to start making amazing soaps right away. It took me about five months before I started making soaps that I was willing to let anyone see! Don't be nervous or intimidated -- your confidence will go up as you do more and learn more! Everyone here on the forum is very helpful. I'm still learning and constantly asking questions here myself, and everyone really jumps in to help each other out.

I have been soaping for going on 4 years now. I remember feeling just like you,my advice is choose 1 recipe and make it from start to finish then move on to the next project ect... Otherwise you will end up with like 200 Fragrance oils and essential oils and ALL of the other oils and ALL of the molds ,and if you think your head is going to explode from all of your idea's that you want to create all in the same day WHEW you get the idea!!!! On that note soaping is a wonderful healthy way of pampering yourself and everyone around you and it really comes from the heart. It makes me happy and I'm sure you will love it . :D :D

I second everything carolynp said! I'm still fairly new to soap making, but I absolutely love everything I've gotten from Bramble Berry so far!! I got an order from them yesterday and I definitely suggest the EO sampler pack and a mica sampler pack.

Happy soaping!!
