Is soap containing lye safe for babies to use?

If it's made correctly and a mild formula, yes. although babies don't need soap at all as a general rule.

just as a clarification, all true soap is made with lye - whether made by you or by Ivory, so don't tthink of them differently.

Somehow I don't think of Ivory even being soap - it's detergent...

Oh yeah and final soap doesn't have any lye in it if done properly.

And babies don't need soap - I echo that - a bit of water is just enough

Lye and oils saponify. Done correctly, there is no lye present in the final soap.

Along this same theme...... many of my customers have asked if there were such a thing as a tear-free baby bar..... my response is that the ph doesn't lend itself to that....... is there anyway to make tear free soaps? My searches have not ever come up with anything. Thanks!

Thanks soapbuddy! That's what I figured--- most people who buy handcrafted soaps are not interested in anything synthetic! Our soaps are so much better for babies---- the number of synthetics in baby washes is just crazy! I suggest using water to wash those baby faces.

I've heard it said often that babies don't need soap, but in reality, if your baby stays in your home 24/7 maybe the baby doesn't need soap, ...but most babies need a touch of soap to break up the dirt and oils on their skin the same as an adult...

I only used water on my babies faces. My DD, now 10 and in the midst of puberty madness, only used water until she started puberty last year and needed more for her oily skin. My 8 year old still washes her face with just a wet wash cloth.

Wish I'd made soap when they were babies. They do love my soaps now though!
