Teach Soap

So, I have to make a batch of black shiny soap (using a PVC pipe to make hockey pucks. . .really. ..did I mention I work for a hockey team)? Anyways, how do I do it?

Any suggestions for recipe to get a shinier batch?

Color--I only have black oxide right now in sampler. Do I need a liquid colorant? How do I get a fully, total black color in an opaque soap?

Hope you all can help me. Since my staff has put up with this soap obsession for past few months, I decided I would show them that I can make a hockey puck from soap.

I got total black with charcoal. If you spray the bars with alcohol after they are done and cut that should shine them up.

You can also "buff" with water, that will give them a shine!

Where would I get charcoal?

Health food stores are another option. The Vitamin Shoppe and GNC usually carry it, too. So does Petco. Dogs get upset tummies, too. Walmart pharmacy or vitamin, mineral, supplement area.

Ohhhh. . .actually I am very familiar with the capsule charcoal or tablet (I have altitude tummy) just thought you were going to make me grate a briquette or something! Never thought those soaps in my medicine cabinet would work!!!

How much charcoal do you think it will take for a 3 lb batch? Went to home depot at lunch today and feel very manly after sawing my own PVC pipe to do these!!!

You can also get charcoal in the aquarium dept of the pet store.

This may only apply to CA folks, but don't you hate when a big chain store like CVS stops carrying your favorite products (a.k.a. charcoal caps)? Anyways, found them at Walgreen's so thanks everyone for advice. Just wish I knew how many capsules I will need? Still learning about colors so not sure how many I need for total opacity.

Just make nicks and dents in them and tell them they're "used" hockey pucks then they don't need to be shiny:-) I hope you post some pics.

Update: Made a small 1 lb batch tonight using just olive (13 oz) and coconut (3 oz) since I had those in kitchen! It took at least 2 tsp of charcoal to get what I think will be a solid black (although it still looked like a dark gray). So in a couple of days when this stuff decides to get out of the pvc pipe, I will post photos. Therefore, I like the idea of dents and scuffs because this may not turn out. Thanks for everyone's help!!!
