So I was making my basic recipe last night -- just olive, coconut, and palm. Soaped around 120 F -- split the batch into 2 at light trace to scent the 2 halves separately. The other half turned out fine. This half I scented with "Fall Harvest" from Sweet Cakes - used 1oz for a 2lb batch. After pouring the soap into the mold, it set up really fast. Then within about 2 minutes it started to gel and within 7 or 8 min it was totally gelled throughout! I assume this has something to do with the scent (I had never used this one before -- it does have some spice to it).

Also, now, 24 hours later, the soap still looks like it is in gel phase but it isn't hot still. It is dark and almost translucent looking, but has hardened up a little. It also seems to have a bit of oil on the top as well. I'm going to wait a few days before I take it out of the mold to see what happens, but if it doesn't get any less oily, can I still use this batch or do I need to rebatch?

Thanks!

Spiced fragrances tend to heat up and sometimes overheat. They will also make your batch darker. If there is any oil on top and you are sure you measured correctly, then it overheated. Sometimes the oil will absorb back in; sometimes not. Give it a couple of days and see.
