I searched through the posts and found the one where it says to use 1/3 beeswax, 1/3 butters, and 1/3 oils. This is what I came up with. What do you think? Thanks.

1/3 Beeswax
1/3 Butters
1/3 Oils

6 1.25 oz Lotion Bars

7.5 oz total weight
2.5oz Beeswax
2.5oz Butters – 1.25 oz Cocoa Butter, 1.25 oz Shea Butter
2.5oz Oils – 1.25 oz Jojoba, 1.25 oz Avocado
.4oz Fragrance

it sounds kinda like the one i used. should there be a little more beeswax than butters/oils? what about preservatives?

i tried this one:

4 ounces mango or shea butter
4 ounces beesweax, yellow or white
5 ounces liquid oil (jojoba or grapeseed are both excellent)
2 teaspoons of essential oil or fragrance oil

i halved it. it seems a bit greesy and and gets soft at room temp.

I think there should be more beeswax than liquid oils. I based this one on the post I found from Soapbuddy. I seem to trust her recommendations. I will try it. I just want to make one for my mom's birthday next Friday. She really likes them and I haven't tried one yet. I think I can make a better one than what she has now. Of course that might just be me. LOL! I will try it and see how it works out.

I tend to use more beeswax due to Palm Springs heat. You might be able to get by with less beeswax, depending on where you live.

I have a question about lotion bars. I had never heard of them until I started making lotion. So I thought I would give it a try. I have never seen one or bought one so I have nothing to compare them with. I put mine in muffin tins. They just seem like a little greasy muffin. Where do you store them? Maybe I should spend the money to compare?

They are naturally going to be more greasy than a lotion, since they are only oils and wax. I use quite a bit of sweet almond oil in mine and I think they are quite nice. The greasiness disappears after a few minutes.

I used to mold mine in muffin tins, but I recently switched to guest soap molds, which I find works better.

I am in Texas and it is pretty hot here. I think I will stick with the more beeswax. Just to make sure I get a good hard bar. I would hate for it to "melt" before she gets to use it.

Ok. So I made these last night. I melted everything, let it cool slightly, poured into my mold and let harden and cool completely. When I went to unmold, they wanted to stick to the mold! One of them, I completely broke apart, a couple of more lost their decorative tops and then I stuck them in the freezer like I would m&p and the last two came out easier but still left a little bit in the mold. What do I need to do differently? They work great. I had a little bit of extra (don't know how that happened) and so I poured it into a silicone ice cube tray that I have. Those popped out great and do I of course had to try them! A little bit greasy at first but then it soaks in and my hands were very soft. So, any suggestions on unmolding?

my original ones were too soft to pop out of the mold. i put them right in the freezer over night, and blam, out they came. nothing was left behind.

Leave them in the freezer til they are completely frozen. Overnight is safe. Silicone molds work great for this.
