I made my first batch of melt and pour soap. I loved it. Others wanted more lather. What can I do to make that happen?

I don't know where you got your base, but the one from BrambleBerry is excellent. Are you adding any extra oils or butters? If so, that impedes some of the lather.

I bought a Stephenson base from Nu Scents in McHenry, IL. I bought a white glycerin. I was very pleased with the soap, other than the degree of lathering.

I have always had great luck with adding coconut oil to my base as well as castor oil. I do this with M&P or rebatch.

I agree with Soap Buddy. Adding extra oils to an already-formulated M&P base can impede the lathering capabilities. Too much extra oil can make the bars slimey.

As others have said, adding oils will lessen the lather. The oils sit on top of the soap and 'pop' the bubbles.
MP soaps do not lather as well as the detergent based soaps that people are used to from the grocery store. They clean you just as well though! :D

Since this tip came off another forum, I checked the discussion and it helped with hardness, the lather was only helped slightly. I stand corrected.

Brambleberry Base is a wonderful high quality M&P Soap Base...I have never had an issue with lathering.
Also Wholesale Supplies Plus has a wonderful M&P Soap Base that is equal in quality and lather.
