I've had good luck with several of the recipes from the . There are a lot of variations there, so you can play around and see the different qualities of the oils. My only comment is that a lot of them are large (around 40 bars of soap) so you may want to run them through a lye calculator to re-size them.

I'm also fond of the shaving soap recipe on TeachSoap - It's only three oils, has good basic instructions, and you can leave out the clay the first time you try it if you want to start off simply. :)

My favorite beginners recipe is super easy and simple. It's hard, traces quickly and lathers nicely.

33% Palm Oil
33% Coconut Oil
33% Olive Oil or Canola Oil

Granted, it's totally not nourishing and overly moisturizing but it's wonderful for a beginning recipe for newbies not very cognizant about what trace looks like or the patience to wait for trace! =)

Some recipes can be a bit sticky when they're first unmolded. Wait and see how it dries.

You can reduce the amount of water you use to combat that, but it's better to wait until you're good and comfortable with soapmaking before you start getting tricky. :)
