Hi,
I made my first batch of bath bombs. I used a recipe from martha stewart.
1c baking soda
1/2c citric acid
1/4c epson salt

I mixed the citric acid, epson salt, and 3 drops of liquid color in a coffee grinder. In a separate bowl I mixed baking soda and 12 drops of fragrance. I then combined the 2 and spritzed water and mixed. I molded in 80mm acrylic balls. Released them onto paper towels. Instead of hardening, they slowly mushroomed, the top had some cracks. Any advice. I really want to get this I think they are so cool and would make great gifts.

I'm new to soaping as well so I want to say that I've enjoyed reading the forums.

That "growing" effect is usually caused by too much water.

Would it help if I sprayed with alcohol instead? I see recipes that call for glycerin, wouldn't that also keep the bomb to moist?

If you are patient, I have had success by just leaving them in the molds for a day or so until they are hard. I also whisk like mad when adding my liquid ingredients, checking to make sure i'm not adding too much.
